Yes, you can cherrypick!
The Bible is like a used car lot. There are verses and themes that are cherries and creampuffs and you will get lots of spiritual mileage from them. Then there are verses that are lemons and clunkers that provide no spiritual edification at all and can pollute the environment if used by immature people. Choose the cherries and creampuffs and lose the lemons and clunkers.
Choose verses and themes that will enhance your life. Look at verses for a particular situation that you are going through and study those verses for a message about how to conduct yourself. Verses that encourage and uplift you when you are struggling are plentiful and will help you in your difficulty. The Psalms and Proverbs have lots of good themes on worship and wisdom. More importantly, prayer and communion are keys to moving through difficult times in life. However, a good verse can always uplift your spirits. Some encouraging verses that will help you in hard times:
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. - James 1:2-4

Author's note. I changed this verse recently due to the negative connotation of the beginning of the verse. It was always one of my favorites. Now that I have realized that positive words are more powerful, I have changed the beginning of the verse and think it is like adding a turbocharger to an already great verse! I hope you like it, but I don't really care if you do or not. I did it for me!
